I’ve dealt with many similar issues. One thing that’s helped me is differentiating between winning and success. Winning is conditional- there are many variables not in your control, like how the guy across the net plays, for example. Success is unconditional-it’s living in alignment with your highest values.
You may not win the match, but you know you did everything you could to play your best. You may have been out played and lost the match, but within, you’re proud, because you gave it your all. Success is a safety net. We always have it as push ourselves to accomplish an external goal.
